These are the Japanese painter Utamaro's woodblock print
designs .
I've always admired them but have never seen them painted
on glass .
They are a exercise and a discipline for me to keep
skills active .
They are entirely hand painted with traditional European
glass painting techniques .
Paint is dry at first and ground on a glass palette with water then
painted with a liner brush . Each color is fired at a different
temp. So the black is first, then the colors in descending
order. Also, mat technique is used in the broad color areas .
